ANNUAL VARIATIONS AND TRENDS OF WHEAT AND BARLEY PRICES IN TRIPOLI MUNICIPALITY IN THE PERIOD 2000–2010.
Abstract
Prices of soft and hard wheat, and barley in Tripoli Municipality vary from year to year during the period 2000-2010, the variations were sharp in some years. Price of soft wheat ranged between 812.00 Libyan dinars per ton in 2004 and 1250.00 dinars per ton in 2010, with an annual average price of 980.818 dinars per ton. Price of hard wheat ranged between 727.00 dinars per ton in 2004 and 1254.00 dinars per ton in 2009, with an annual average price of 968.00 per ton. Price of barley ranged between 686.00 dinars per ton in 2004 and 1094.00 dinars per ton in 2009, with an annual average price of 859.591 per ton. Prices of soft wheat, hard wheat, and barley took a general rising trend during the period 2000-2010, and the prices of soft wheat, hard wheat, and barley had increased by a rate of 36.464 dinars per ton, 36.000 dinars per ton, and 27.759 dinars per ton per year respectively. There are variation and differences between prices of soft wheat, hard wheat, and barley, and they were subject to fluctuations in the period 2000-2010. While, prices of both soft and hard wheat were unstable, prices of barley were stable in this period, and this characteristic of prices of these cereals can be attributed to the factors affecting the supply of these cereals and demand for them.
