EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctor of Philosophy (1996): Ph.D. degree in  Horticulture (plant tissue culture). The research project being entitled: "Studies on somatic embryogenesis in grape (Vitis vinifera L.", submitted to The National University of Ireland.

Master of  Science  (1985): An M. Sc. degree in Horticulture. Research project being entitled: Studies on chilling injury in citrus fruits. Faculty of Agriculture,  University of Tripoli, Libya.

WORK  EXPERIENCE:

1997- present:   Professor at the department of horticulture, faculty of agriculture, University of Tripoli.

2013. Head,  department of horticulture (from 1/1/2013 to 31/7/2013). 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching undergraduate courses (General botany, Fundamentals of Horticulture, Special studies, Plant biotechnology,  Propagation of horticultural crops, and  Postgraduate course : Advanced plant  tissue culture.
  • Supervision of undergraduate students in their final year projects.
  • Supervision of postgraduate students (M.Sc.).
  • Engaged in some administrative  duties at department and faculty level.

  • The national program for improving olive tree productivity (1985). Sponsored by The National Committee for Scientific Research.
  • Postharvest losses of horticultural crops in Libya (1986). Sponsored by The National Committee for Scientific Research.
  • Micropropagation of some fruit trees  with special emphasis on native clones (olives, citrus, pomegranate) and microtuberisation in potatoes. Sponsored by Biotechnology Research Center (BRC) (2000 - 2003).
  • Citrus rootstocks and cultivar improvement for salinity tolerance through somaclonal variation. Sponsored by Agricultural Research Center, Tripoli (2004- 2006).
  • Artificial ripening of dates project. 2010-2013. Sponsored by The National Corporate for Scientific Research.
  • The use of agricultural waste in Libya project. Sponsored by the ministry of industry and commerce.(team member. 2013-2014).

Other activities:

  • Involved in planning and participating for two  short training course in plant tissue culture organized by Biotechnology Research Center, Tripoli ( 2000, 2002).
  • Scientific committee  member of the First (2001), second (2003) and Sixth (2013) National  Biotechnology Symposium, organized by Biotechnology Research Center. Libya. 
  • Member of the scientific committee of biotechnology Research Center (2012-2013)
